Google +1 And SEOs Social Future – But Will We Sign Up?
Apr 3rd
Ok so a few days ago Google announced their new +1 button – a way for savvy searchers to tell people in their Google network that they think a web site is “pretty cool”.
Sounds familiar, right? Of course it smacks of the Facebook “Like” button and the inevitable comparisons and war cries began in minutes.
But, what sort of impact will this shiny new recommendation engine have on the small business owner trying to achieve rankings locally or even pitching for some big, industry related terms that are quite hefty in the way of competition?
Well I think the place to More >

Data As A Product – Facebook’s Lack Of App Control
Jan 21st
When you start an app on Facebook that isn’t regulated by Facebook itself, you need to click an option that allows the app to view your data with the reasoning that it will make the app work more efficiently. This is never really explained and many people have been left questioning why their profile information needs to be accessed for them to play something as simple as an arcade game? This means that once you’ve access the app, the company who run it can have access to all the information you’ve posted on your profile, such as your phone number More >
“Your Not Board Are You?” – Dear Facebook, Can I Have My Language Back Please?
Sep 15th
Is Facebook partly responsible for a generation of SMS speak and poor use of the language?
You use Facebook right? So do I; so does pretty much everyone I know.
It’s great, a little bit addictive at times, but great nonetheless. It means we can keep up to date with people we’ve not seen for years, with family members living at the other side of the planet (hello Uncle Andrew, remember I want a free holiday) and also share many of our recommendations and media preferences through Facebook’s pages and fan groups.

Facebook has, as you know, side swiped MySpace from the top of the social networking tree. I for one prefer Facebook and with the addition of Facebook pages for businesses, it’s scope became huge.
As a search marketer and general digi marketing geek I’ve often wondered the best way to use Facebook for my clients. Of course we know about the “Pay Per Click” style advertising Facebook allows but what about those people who can’t afford that; the people who want a more cost effective Facebook advertising solution?
Well, whilst it’s not a golden egg, the recent announcement by Google that Facebook More >

Facebook Chat Now Works With iChat And Much More
Feb 11th
First up, sorry for the lack of links in this post, I’m blogging from my iPhone.
Anyhoo, Facebook have just announced Jabber (XMPP) integration for their live chat service; welcome news for anyone wanting to use Facebook chat with iChat and many other standard chat clients.
I can now drop Adium (great as it is) and use my Mac’s native chat client. And anyway, I don’t use my Windows Live Messenger account anymore, does anyone?
Facebook have also made this technology available to developers wanting to integrate Facebook chat into their websites.
This is great news and I’m betting Joe Audette considers this for More >
