Here’s one for all you web designers out there; how many of your clients actually use their CMS system on a daily, weekly or monthly basis?
We have an array of different types of clients with a shiny new web design; Barnsley shops and retail outlets, accountants, manufacturing companies, tattoo removal companies and so on. One thing these guys all have in common is this:

I’ve just been doing some research on the various CMS products out there for .Net developers. This is something I do frequently just to keep upto date wth the developments out there.
I just came across a brilliant little few paragraphs by Ramto who takes a very high level yet informative look at mojoPortal vs DotNetNuke vs Umbraco.

mojoPortal Skins Get Friendly New Admin Menu

Having designed a few mojoPortal skins for clients, it’s always been a tough call when deciding what to do with the admin links.
Previously you had two choices out of the box:
- Text links
- Icon links
Both of these methods work great functionally but present different issues; icons are fantastic for squeezing into mojoPortal skins, they’re unobtrusive and look clear and precise. However, to a less tech oriented user they can be a little unclear and you have to hover for a tooltip to see the link description.

We’ve spent alot of time over the last few years putting together content management systems for clients. And when I say “putting together” I mean various things; skinning existing open source CMSs, building “mini” CMS systems for clients wanting a little bit of bespoke functionality, themeing blogs, integrating forums and much more.
And so far we haven’t found the best CMS tool. Why? Because there’s that much variation in what customers want.
