A Pragmatic Approach to Developing Web Technologies & Practices
Nov 2nd
This is something I’ve been mulling over for a while now, actually probably for years, as I’ve seen various trends dip in and out of the web arena.
Of course, some have become mainstays and are now part of our web surfing expectations: I’m thinking here of Asynchronous Javascript And XML that you and i know as “AJAX”; I remember playing with Google Suggest over 6 years ago and thinking what that the speed of the callbacks to a data set was something that would really enhance the web.
And you know it has, how we search using Google now has significantly More >
Setting up iCloud to Send & Receive POP emails on iPhone, iPad & Mac
Oct 4th
If you’re wondering how to set up iCloud to Send & Receive pop emails on your iPhone, iPad or Mac, it will be worth you reading my previous post on allowing MobileMe to send and receive pop emails – I’m supposing it should be the same process but of course, until we’ve tried it out we shall reserve judgement!
I’ll take a full in depth look at how to set up iCloud to send & receive POP emails on iPhone, iPad & Mac once iCloud is officially with us and share my findings.
In the meantime, if you have any feedback, shoot it More >
Play Mario:Be Productive
Sep 19th
We at DM2 Creative have just moved offices. You may have seen the Tweets if you’re a follower.
One of the first things I did when we moved office was buy a trusty old Super Nintendo; why? Well for the simple reasons: I kick ass at Mario 3 and I want to chill out.
Another thing I’ve gotten back into this year is golf. Yes, I’m terrible and yes I get angry and yes it takes hours and hours to do. But, for the most part it chills me out.
One final thing I’ll mention before getting to the point is that I’ve More >
Learning To Say No
Jul 16th
It’s a hard thing; turning work down.
When I think back to when I started in business, it was all I could do to get work. And then of course having got the work, it was all I could do to keep the client happy no matter what.
But, what if “no matter what” keeps you busy but also keeps you on the edge of the cash-flow chasm? What if it means that you bend over backwards to meet demands because losing a client is a bad thing; isn’t it?
As Frank Would Say, Learn How To Say NoEvery client is different: More >
The Evolution of The Networking Follow Up
Jun 15th
This is a musing, something that I think I’ve been musing on for a while now subconsciously.
It really came to the fore at the recent live streaming of Thinking Digital that I attended at Barnsley DMC, an event that was exceptional and fantastic for digital Barnsley, but also an event that consolidated, for me, Twitter’s role in local networking, follow ups and ‘ice breaking’.
The StoryDuring that event there were several great guys and girls I’d met and known before in the same room (shout to the P1 guys, bfcandrew / More >
Small Business Owners: “Should I optimise my website for mobile browsers?”
May 31st
As a company that does a lot of front end web development, we’re typically tasked with taking reams of information, working it into a usable and cohesive information architecture and then displaying it on a screen in the form of a pretty, accessible website.
But, theres no doubt that the rise and rise of smart phones and tablets is having an impact on how we consume our content on a daily basis.
As a small business owner, someone responsible for delivering quality information to a More >
Firefox 4 Mac Review – First Day Hands On
Mar 24th
Honestly, I haven’t been paying too much attention to the Firefox Team‘s developments over the last few months and so, upgrading to Firefox 4 was a bit out of the blue.
But, the guru Don in the office upgraded and recommended it and well, here we are.
You know what, I like it too.
A quick play around with it didn’t reveal too much, but after a day of using it I’ve put together a few of the notable updates and what I think of them:
- Tab groups – This is quite a nifty little feature if you’re a “power user” (which I’m not). If More >
