Yahoo!Gives A Rousing Insight Into It’s Search Plans – But Does Anyone Care?
There’s an interesting story over on the BBC Technology site which looks at how Yahoo! is not abandoning it’s search business despite losing out more and more to Google and Bing.
It’s a good read as a SEM and provides a bit of an insight into the company’s plans for it’s search product going forward; Yahoo! of course did pioneer this a decade ago…
The thing that really got me wondering is this quote from Greg Sterling of SearchEngineLand:
“I think the market wants a competitive Yahoo, it doesn’t want to see just two players dominate this space. It wants more diversity and innovation and that comes from competition. I give them a fighting chance.”
As a search marketer, of course we want to see Yahoo! bounce back and drive innovation in search the way that Google is constantly doing. But, my question is this:
As standard web users – do people really care whether or not they have a pick list of search providers, as long as they get relevant results from their queries?
