Having designed a few mojoPortal skins for clients, it’s always been a tough call when deciding what to do with the admin links.

Previously you had two choices out of the box:

  • Text links
  • Icon links

Both of these methods work great functionally but present different issues; icons are fantastic for squeezing into mojoPortal skins, they’re unobtrusive and look clear and precise. However, to a less tech oriented user they can be a little unclear and you have to hover for a tooltip to see the link description.

The text link option on the other hand provides a quick and clear look at exactly what each link does. The down side though is that they can be difficult to slot into your mojoPortal skins, frequently ending up being absolutely positioned somewhere out of the way with CSS.

In release 2.3.3.4 of mojoPortal, Joe Audette split down each link to it’s own control, providing deisgners with a way to create an extremely user friendly admin link structure whilst not having to tussle with fitting it into their mojoPortal skin.

Release 2.3.3.6 adds a tiny, but valuable element to this welcome new feature; button icons.

It’s another great addition to the already fantastic mojoPortal platform, and given the frequent upgrades to the system, I look forward to seeing what else Joe pushes out over the next few months.

Have you tried this new admin link strucure yet? What did you think?
