5 Essential iPhone Apps for Web Professionals
Hi all
After writing about some essential Mac dashboard widgets for web designers and developers I thought it’d be useful to elaborate on what I use on my iPhone to aid my daily work.
Before I start, these aren’t apps that necessarily aid design; whilst there are plenty of those out there (CSS & jQuery cheat sheets and so on), I’ve always found that I never used them; if I ever I need something like this, I’m in front of my desk working away on a desktop Mac or PC anyway.
What I (and many others) tend to do is use their iPhone (or other fancy device) for on the go, quick updates and stats checks – it’s fantastic to be able to schedule some quality tips to post to Twitter whilst I’m waiting for my other half to try on a skirt in River Island!
So, my (current) 5 essential iPhone apps for web professionals:
Hootsuite - Twitter client – This is great for checking out Twitter stats and posting quality updates quickly and easily. In fact I did a mini Hootsuite iPhone App Review a while ago. Notable others: Twitteriffic, Tweetie & TweetDeck
WordPress - Native WordPress client – I use this prmarily for quick blog posts and moderating comments; dead handy to have around but some what limited in functionality if you like your blogging. Notable others: iBlogger – the best out there if your blog isn’t WordPress but runs on Blogger or another MetaWebLog platform. Oh it does work with WordPress too.
Facebook - Native Facebook client – If you can stop yourself frittering time away checking your personal Facebook account, you can really make use of the newest version of the Facebook iPhone App to keep your company or organisation pages up to date. Great for online networking in a hurry.vNotable others: To be honest, I haven’t found a decent one.
Toodledo – To Do lists - This is so useful. I constantly get emails on the go and would go insane with all the things I needed “to do” based on them. There’s also a handy Toodledo Mac Dashboard Widget that syncs seamlessly with it’s iPhone brother, and you can also integrate it with your Mac mail using a feed. Magic! Notable others: I haven’t looked because this is so good.
Ego – Quick web stats – Ego provides a slick presentation of all of your favourite web stats. It’s nothing fancy and isn’t too deep, but it does give a quick and easy look at your Google Analytics, Twitter, Feedburner, Vimeo and Mint profiles. It really is well put together and works nicely with all APIs. Notable others: BAM Analytics was ok but a little heavy.
There are a few more apps that I’d like to see in the future, specifically I’m looking forward to a Woopra iPhone app; it’d be a great addition to the family.
Got any more iPhone apps that you find useful? Let me know in the comments :0)
