Migrating from BlogEngine.net to WordPress – first thoughts and why we did it.
Well I’ve spent today switching from BlogEngine to WordPress and you know what, it’s not been bad.
I’ll maybe put a write up on here of the experiences but I guess there might not be too much to write.
I’ve always played around with WordPress and implemented it for clients, but being the .net geezer I am (even more so now I’ve fallen in love with mojoPortal) I always went for BlogEngine.
The reason I switched to WordPress was simple, and two fold: BlogEngine didn’t have enough themes or plugins. Of course we could make our own, but why reinvent the wheel? We do build alot of custom themes for clients wanting to blog but building a WP or BE theme seems to take about the same amount of effort, so why not take advantage of the WP extensions library for nothing?
Don’t get me wrong, I love BlogEngine, but I also love tinkering. And WordPress let’s me tinker that little bit more, especially with some of the great SEO and Twitter plugins out there.

Good post, but have you thought about Migrating from BlogEngine.net to WordPress – first thoughts and why we did it. before?
blog engine is better than wordpress but more users like wordpress because it is easy to use.
Hi there
I hear what you’re saying about WordPress being favourable for users who like it’s ease of use. It’s a great system from a backend perspective; I’m not sure either WordPress or BlogEngine is “better” – both systems have their merits and I guess it’s personal preference and whether the product is fit for purpose that decides which is better in each project.
Certainly WordPress is more mature so the extensibility is easier (through pre built plugins) and tutorials are wider spread.

Mark
what is the best blogengine or wordpress? Because as i can see blogengine and wordpress are almost same. The only advantage of blogengine it when commenting it is auto approved.
I guess it’s personal preference really, I love the extensibility and the plugin directory for WordPress. BlogEngine is just too young for my liking.
