Bitten by the Twitter bug?!
It seems that no matter where you look online you're bombarded with all sorts of social networking this and social networking that.
It is quite obviously a great way to share information quickly and eaily with your peers, clients, friends and contacts and it seems the latest entry into this world (or should I say, latest entry to be enjoying free PR all over the radio and TV) is Twitter (www.twitter.com). Whilst us creative lot over here have stayed away from a company Facebook we have signed The Design Loft up to Twitter.
Why?
Well, we like people to know that we are people too, not just some geeks sat behind computers plodding on with some fancy graphic design or coding some website up. And whilst we have this here blog to update you with all sorts of news, views and tips & tricks there isn't always call to write a full blog entry when we nip to make a brew.
Instead we use Twitter and answer the one simple question that drives Twitter's very existence: "What are you doing?". Now, the beauty of this is that when we put our geek heads back on after telling you that we've just watered the plant or had a biscuit, we can actually grab a live feed from our Twitter profile (and anyone else's using mighty RSS) and add it onto any website we like. You'll see there's actually a live feed of our Twitter profile over on the left of this blog to prove it…… (might stick something similar on our website too soon).
Why tell you this?
Because we actually think it's a great way for you too to engage with your clients and provide that personal touch that alot of companies lack, we can integrate your Twitter feed in to your website or blog so that you can Tweet away (to "Tweet" is to update your Twitter status) to your heart's content and your website or blog visitors will be able to see that you live and you breathe, just like they do.
Of course, it requires some maintenance; you do have to actually update Twitter for it to work well. But thankfully that's dead easy, just log on to their website and spend about 10 seconds putting in what you're doing; you can even follow other people you know or companies you work with if they have a Twitter account. For you Vista users you can also download this great desktop gadget to make it even easier………
Oh, and there's even a Facebook application for you hardcore social networkers too!
Anyway, go check it out over on the Twitter website and see if you fancy a go.
